I watched the Pledge video and it was really inspiring to see all the different celebrities come together to say what they pledge to do in hopes of making the world a cleaner, safer, happier and healthier enivornment. I Pledge to use less energy, help end hunger, be a better friend, to laugh more and to always represent my country with pride, dignity and honesty just as Ashton Kutcher will. I believe if we all work together we can influence and create change.

My favorite line in the video was when the footballer pledged to consider himself as an American and not an African American. Many times cultures tend to seperate themselves from each other. We fail to realize that we are all Americans, and by working together we can improve our nation as a whole.

What a GREAT video!
There was one line in the video that i asbolutely loved.
"I will change myself, before i ask others to change"
I think thats one of the biggest problems that a person will encounter, People want to change other people, but never themselves.
I think that Obama has made many realize that we do need to change and that change starts with ourselves.
I pledge to stop letting the water run while i brush my teeth, I pledge to turn off the lights, and I pledge to recycle and preserve this planet!

I really enjoyed the Pledge video. It's great to know that celebrities are taking their time to make these videos. They definitely impact the youth. To me the most important message in this video was "So let us summon a new spirit of patriotism, of responsibility, where each of us resolves to pitch in and work harder and look after not only ourselves but each other."

"I pledge to be a better person, to never stop learning and growing each and every day .. I pledge to commit to my own change, before I ask others to change. To be the change."

I always pledged to be a better person being humble, doing my best at whatever I do on every new year. However, I think, as time goes by, I forgot what I pledged. It was always repeated. So, in this time, I want to pledge to do right now what I pledged before.

The 'I Pledge' video is very inspirational. Mahatma Gandhi once said, " Be the change that you want to see in the world." This video is a reminder to everyone to pledge their lives to a cause they think is worthwhile. A reminder to get better and better. I hope to help President Obama in some way, even though I'm not an American.

I think the way the chapter emphasizes power and influence is a little strange in that I don't think that sort of thing can be even marginally measured.

Things such as "prestige" for instance, and other complicated sociological relationships between a leader and a follower cannot be enumerated and discussed with such little forethought as had been by Kottak in the chapter.

I believe sometimes power is charisma (which I infer to be prestige), but sometimes it is just pure brute force and combinations o f both..

The Pledge video is filled of hope, joy and commitments. It reminds me in a certain way all the promises that I make to myself each day. They all are made with goodwill but I admit it is always easy to speak but to act it is very different. However, I believe that changes are possible. Our world is the perfect example.I want to be part of the change of the world, but acts need to follow words.

It's inspiring to see the pledge video, sure, but who's keeping tabs on them to see if they really are doing what they pledge to do? Actions speak louder than words, and of course this video would inspire and motivate people to see that some of the most influential people in the entertainment industry are taking the time out to promote a cause, but in the end if they don't follow through with their pledges, it would defeat teh whole purpose

The first video was more of a power imposed onto the people and it was not respected as the ruler did not respect the people. The second video was the opposite as the leader said he would change before he'd make anyone else change. The Pledge video is definitely very inspirational to see so many different, but very famous, people come together to pledge to create a better world. Many of those celebrities are considered role models so to have them pledge to do so many great things influence more people to do so as well.
