This is a very useful resource that I will apply in my everyday study. I am a visual learner who can’t really depend on my listening skills to learn. Therefore videos or clips, like those overview videos from www.studio4learning.tv , are very useful tools that I can use to improve myself.
In class we are mostly talking about a specific subject. Even though most of the discussions are very fascinating, not all the information that I hear will actually enter my head. I will most likely only retain some or the main point of the discussion. However by viewing those video I could retain much more of the information. I also believe that I am not the only one in my situation. I believe that there are many other people who are like me, who prefer to learn from animated video rather than a discussion.
However one thing that the videos are lacking is the interaction between the listener and the speaker. I think that point is something that a class could never replace. By interacting with the listener, the learning process becomes more interesting.
I think watching videos like the ones posted on the blog really helped me understand the material better. When I watch something through a YouTube video I am able to understand the subject better. Simply reading from a textbook can sometimes be dull but watching a video gives you a great example of what is being discussed. It was actually funny watching these videos because they wore clothing styles of the late 80's and early 90's. The characters in the video grabbed my attention as they talked about ethnocentrism. Now it will be easier for me to remember that ethnocentrism means being biased against other cultures. If you’re ethnocentric you’re comparing a different culture to your own. However, your own culture is not a good measuring stick. One has to be unbiased when studying other cultures. I also got a quick look at the definition to a hypothesis and how the American government was formed. These short YouTube clips are like wisdom in a small box. Opening up these box is just a mouse click away.
It’s very interesting that the way that the videos are using to teach people. They create the subtitle to highlight the important points that the actor had spoken. This way helps me to understand more easily and quickly. When I feel confuse, I just stop and read the words again and again. The examples also are more helpful to let me understand the concepts or terms other than just giving out the definition of the terms.
For example, in the first video, “Framing the Research Question”, I learned the different between theory and hypothesis. Theory is the idea that we use to explain the phenomena we saw. Then the hypothesis is the facts or question that we use to support or question out idea—the theory. Before I watch the video, I thought that we have to present the hypothesis and then get the theory by just looking at the definition.
I like this kind of teaching style. These examples have provided vivid explanations to help people to understand more easily.
I agree that watching videos is very helpful in understanding the material. When I see things, I tend to understand them better than if i just read it from a book. Sometimes it makes more sense if you see examples and not just read about them. Yet, as xiang stated, with videos we can not interact and that is an important part of learning. But I still think that watching these kind of videos could maybe help us learn more.

I think these videos are very useful and helpful. The student can easily understand the key concept through these videos.
I most like a American Government: Types of Government video. The topic could makes people tedious but they explained well and I could easily understand. Moreover, I like the their acting. It made me interesting and I could more concentrate on video.
This video is very educational and fun to understand. From first video I learned about research papers first part; theory and hypothesis. Hypothesis is not a same concept with theory. Theory is an assertion about something and hypothesis is derived from a theory. For example, theory is hours of studying affect test score and hypothesis is when students study more and more time, the test score is growing. Theory and hypothesis are important parts of research papers because these are not only introduction of research and also leading research ways and objects.
From the second video, I could learn about ethnocentrism. Ethnocentrism is the propensity to judge others by the standards of one’s own culture. Your measurements will be all wrong by judging with only one’s own culture side. Culture is diversity and each culture is priceless. Traditional culture is made by historical own culture’s environment. There is no ideal culture. Culture is made depending on their society features.
The third video shows four types of government; monarchy, oligarchy, aristocracy, and democracy. Monarchy is rule by king or queen. They have strong power connected sky or god above everybody. Oligarchy is rule by a privileged few. Democracy is a form of government in which people hold the power to rule themselves. It is divided two types; direct and indirect democracy. Direct democracy society people have an equal say in laws they create majority rules. Indirect democracy each citizen gets one vote and representatives then vote within a government structure to make and pass laws. Current American government forms indirect democracy. This type of democracy is useful to rule big country.
