Le Grand Content - How, why and what is life? An Ethnographic inquiry

I found this on http://www.ethnography.com/category/blogging-gems/. While at first it seems absurd and humorous, there is something dead on and thought-provoking about this animated video. This is a great little short film by Clemens Kogler.

From the YouTube description
Le Grand Content examines the omnipresent Powerpoint-culture in search for its philosophical potential. Intersections and diagrams are assembled to form a grand ‘association-chain-massacre’. which challenges itself to answer all questions of the universe and some more. Of course, it totally fails this assignment, but in its failure it still manages to produce some magical nuance and shades between the great topics death, cable tv, emotions and hamsters.

That was a great video. I found it very interesting how we don't notice the way everything in our existence and respectively in our problems is interlinked. We seldom think about why we do certain things or why certain things make us feel a certain way. But the truth is that everything is triggered by what we see in society as normal. "Normal" also sets the standard for what we do and how we feel and more importantly, what we believe in. The question I always wonder about is, how would we act if there was no one to judge us?

I found this video a little confusing at first, but once you pay close attention you realize that everything is being connected. The concept of The easter bunny, The tooth fairy and Santa Claus forming in a child their first religious doubt was very interesting. I hadnt thought of it in that way and now that i do, it seems quite realistic. Also, the example of the Hamster, Puppy and Goldfish being one of the first experiences of death in a child was understanding. Due to the fact that they grow close to this animal, when it is lost a child becomes more familiar with death.

The video is confusing at first and doesn't make sense. But as it progresses, it becomes more understandable. I think the message of the video was that each and everything you do in your daily life, no matter if its big or small, it effects you and the poeple around you.

..I though this was rather interesting. To understand what life means you have to shed light on whats important and take a look beyond the surface. i think as humans we should value truth beyond anything. Behind all the
artificial sweetness that exists,
lies the essence of what life is.

I think the video is a little confusing but the overall message is great. Little things can affect much bigger things, or what we think the bigger things are. If we all tried to focus on the little things that are causing us unhappiness, then maybe we can find a solution to the bigger problem.

I really enjoyed this video. It seemed as though the narrator uses sarcasm and molds it with life as though to almost mock humans and their way of living and why they make the choices they make. I loved the example on death/children and how they get pets and learn what death is once they die. I thought it was pretty funny because it's shown a lot in movies and see it happen ocassionally. Also, it was pretty funny, the part about virgins and how some either chose to be them or they're just socially inactive. This just proves to show why people choose to live their life and how it affects different people who are all really the same.

At first I didnt understand what the video was trying to get at. but after watching it for a while it noticed how complex life can be. All the decisions we make and things we do in life are interconnect and affects us in many different ways we cant even imagine. Theres always a reason behind what ever happens in life.

First, this video seemed very confusing to me, but as it progressed, I saw, it has a very important message to tell. Little things matter in our life. We might not pay any significant attention to them but these things help us to step in to the real world. Less important things, like goldfish, puffy can teach us the meaning of death, or tooth fairy, Easter bunny, and Santa Claus are the first sources of religious doubt. We also have to understand that, our life is a collection of happy and unhappy events, and we should not be discouraged because of our failures.

As everyone said, its true that at first the video seemed to be confusing to understand but as it went by we could see that everything is linked with one another. And that our life is effected in many differnt ways which we can't see or don't even know.

Death, Tax and Spam - There's no way around it.
Easter bunny, Santa Clause and Tooth fairy - lead to religious doubt.

I liked this video because it delivered a very resonant message about life and all the while taking a slightly humorous approach.

It makes us realize how much what we do in our lives reflect the choices we make. Think about love, it happens but not until our consciousness agrees with it.

A really enlightening video!

I found the video confusing at the beginning too, but at the end the message is great. Little details of life affect us more than the bigger things.I think, people who take care of little things create the difference and get succeed.

this video is weird. ummm the author puts things on a graph, like when he compared the puppy to mary. mary was higher on the graph then the puppy because the potential for happiness with mary would of been higher then the potentila with the puppy. mary could of been someone who he could fall in love with bring happiness and maybe even start a family. the puppy on the other hand could only be your companion and nothing else. also his discussion on the existence of santa claus the easter bunny and the tooth fairy lead to religious doubt, science is a big killer of religion as well. science has proven many things in the bible to be incorrect or even impossible. i think one reason people look to religion is for answers of the unexplained and science can only answer so many questions. people rather believe in magic then wait for a more logical answer.

First watching the video it does tend to be some what confusing. But towards the end is clear that the primary purpose of the video is to demonstrate that life itself can be really difficult. The decisions we make everyday can have a greater impact on us then some may expect.

That's cool how everything led into one another. Very well thought out and presented. Insightful, too.

this video was confusing to me at first, but then it became more clear. again, the colors and visual help to give you a better understanding of the information. this video proves that everything in your life affects you

This video ended with what some people would call either an half- empty cup or an half-full cup. People have the tendencies to have an automatic positive or negative image of something based on how they have been brought up within their culture. I didn't think the video was effective the first time and I thought that it was just too general. But after looking at it again, you start to think maybe that was the point. To convey as much important information as possible in the least amount of time. Very interesting video!

Im not sure if I properly understood what the video was trying to portray but my emic perspective was that it was trying to relay a message on our lives. Despite our presitge, wealth and power we all are connected and can not plan our lives. Everyones ideal life plan differs from the reality. We all pay taxes, eaten spam or something similar and cannot escape death. I think this video shows that our ascribed and achieved status do not differ to much in the long run.

I really like the presentation in this video and I think the messege is clear. Everything you do and people you talk to teaches and prepares you for things in life. No matter how small and whether you realize it or not it does and my favorite example was when they talked about pets teachings kids about death.
