CULTURAL IMPERIALISM + ETHNOCENTRISM = LACK OF EDUCATION

Channel Icon
HammerSickle
"Intention of this video is to show how pop culture and consumerism are making people superficial and stupid. People in 1st world use resources five times more than people in 3rd World but their level of knowledge and understanding is far lower than any 3rd world country" (More info from YouTube). Most citizens are clueless about the basics. At one point the interviewer asks about the "Coalition of the Willing" and the anwers are humorous but our ignorance is what keeps the core's hegemony and imperialism in place.

I really enjoyed this video. The questions he asked along with the answers people were giving him made me laugh so much. My favorite part was when he was asking people to pin the countries that was being discussed on the altered map. and every country was in the place of Australia.

Although this video is amusing, I think that it is pretty horrible that so many people are so uneducated. The interviewer proves his point that Americans are stupid very well. It is also humorous that all of the people he interviewed are from texas, and not to be offensive to Texans or southerners, but if the same study was done in New York, the results would be very different.
The majority of Americans do not know what is going on in the world, they dont care, and they do not learn about it.
It is horrible that we have people like that because in case something happens and we need the support of our country, people will blindly support things they do not know much about.

Sofiya, they may be IN Texas but we don't know if they are all FROM Texas, do we? People move, travel, relocate, are tourists. All we can safely say is they seem to all be Americans.

It's so funny. However, there are some questions I don't know ethier. It's just out of interest. Who knows? There might be a professional engineer who does not care the questions the interviewer asked. It's so funny but I think that nobody can say they are stupid because they had stupid answers.

This video is funny but mostly scary. How is it possible to live into a world, to share the benefit of globalization, without knowing anything about what's going on the opposite emisphere of the planet?!
Is it really possible to share your culture and its values if you don't even care about the other ones? If I want to share my own culture or my perception of the world, I need first to learn about other cultures and their functioning into the world. It could without doubt enable me to understand mine even better.

This video although has a comedic sense, I find it embarrassing. Mostly outsider impressions of the Americans or people living in the United States is that everyone is educated and well rounded, however from this video it is sad to say that such believe is a misconception (which shouldn't be) . I guess to a certain extent, this is because there is lack of education or simply people don't see the need to learn about other countries outside the U.S....

Although funny this video made me think of two things. One is that I often hear people say that the reason third world countries are impoverished is that there is no access to education. However, watching this video it is clear that many people in the United States are not aware of many things that an "educated" person is expected to know. Nonetheless, the United States is not impoverished and Im pretty sure that the lack of these people's general knowledge does not interfere with them doing the jobs they know how to do. Another thought I had was how ignorant some people are. Perhaps if people were more aware of current events and basic facts such as religion of other countries, or certain political relationships it would be simple for them to understand people. Maybe there would be less hostility.
